a BACKYARD NESTLED INTO A PARK...

Situated in the northeast side of Interlaken Park, the Nest Landscape was designed to carefully fit the sensitive ecology of the park and the need for a more spacious backyard space.

existing constraints …

With Interlaken Park sloping north towards the landscape, drainage was essential in the design. Alongside that, the clients wanted their backyard to feel spacious and welcoming at the same. The existing maple trees and styrax were significant to the quality of the landscape and were essential to keep.

The design draws on the shrubs and trees already existing in Interlaken Park. The planting palette interweaves bright greens and feathered ferns punctuated by the pink Hellebore and Magnolia flowers.

The landscape design required opening up the backyard for generous patios and two different places to sit. Each space in this intimate backyard allows for the clients to choose socialization or privacy. The existing Styrax tree in the center of the landscape was moved towards the back, creating a stunning focal point.

DESIGN FOR GATHERING

Three benches dot the landscape. The largest one is a bench surrounding a steel fireplace. The bench design was created in close conversation with the clients who requested the bottom back board be angled for optimal comfort when sitting.
