a sea cottage for escape and community
Situated near the edge of an existing single-family home overlooking the Puget Sound, Eileen-By-The-Sea is a small and playful DADU. The client lives in New York most of the year but she wanted a place she could come visit her parents. She also wanted a DADU that would promote community.

The DADU would sit near the shoreline and in several ecological sensitive areas. The design needed to include low-impact foundation system while being open towards the water views.
DESIGN //
Inspired by the design principals of Eileen Grey, this guest house focuses on the human experience of tactile materials, rich colors, and the artful play of light and materials. Focusing on the guest house as a peaceful retreat, the sound and colors of the ocean are drawn into the greens and beige of the shore. Using rich blues and metallic chrome, the Puget Sound is invited into the building. Meanwhile, the dark greens and muted woods give the space a warmth against the colder winter months.
